We wanted to see St. Andrews on our “free” day from the other tours that were provided by our trip organizer. James was a standout guide – prepared, flexible, fun, passionate, and knowledgeable. He delivered a great experience at the golf course, golf museum, and golf store (plus lunch reservations at the renowned Jigger Inn by the course), with detours to historic sites on the way and also to charming Falkland (featured in the Outlander series). In St. Andrews he whisked away the two of us who were not golf enthusiasts on an impromptu private tour of two local sites of historic significance. James personalized the trip even further with a “not in the guidebooks” experience: James learned that my husband’s last name is Cash and that he thought he had an ancestral connection to the area. When we got to Falkland, James brought us down a side street in town to a bench and plaque dedicated to Johnny Cash. Johnny had visited when he’d learned that his ancestors had come from the area, and ultimately befriended the town and visited numerous times, even giving concerts. His daughter Roseanne followed in his footsteps. James was as excited as we were about this connection. And of course it was a highlight for my husband. We all were delighted with James’ historical tales and enthusiasm for his topic. We were impressed with how many sights he fit into the day while never seeming to rush, and how adaptable he was to suggestions and requests. We just completed a 5 day custom tour with James of the highlands and Isle of Skye. Wow!! We feel very lucky to have spent time with such a friendly, knowledgeable, reliable, humorous and warm host. Two weeks ago, I sadly left the stunningly beauty of Scotland and our most talented guide, James of Alba Experiences. Going in, I had no idea how much I would love this country; nor did I having any idea how brilliant our guide would be. We spend 10 days traveling through the country side of western Scotland. Every turn and every stop filled my eyes with breathtaking beauty, so much so that I could never choose a favorite. James’s knowledge and love for his country vividly recreated the fascinating history of Scotland in our minds. Our van rides, filled with his narrative, were our own little National Geographic shows! What a great trip! What a great guide! We (husband, sister, daughter, son-in-law, me) just finished a 10 day adventure through western Scotland and the Orkneys with James of Alba Experiences. And what an experience it was. This was the best trip we've ever had, thanks to James' knowledge, kindness, humor, and skill, and thanks to the extraordinary beauty of Scotland. James created an itinerary that showcased the history and mystical nature of Scottish landscapes and seascapes, from ancient neolithic rock art and villages, to medieval abbeys, and still inhabited castles. It was a relief that none of us had to drive and a treat to have an experienced guide with us. When James dropped us off in Edinburgh it was like leaving a friend. I did a 10 day tour with my family and James across Scotland (Trossach National Park, Inveraray Castle, Kilimartin, Mull, Iona, Oban, Fairy Glen, Portree, Isle of Harris and Lewis, Orkney, and Inverness just to name a few locations). It was spectacular. Words cannot describe how amazing this opportunity was and to name my favorite part of this trip is impossible. Each sight was unique and incomparable to each other. Rainbows followed us throughout our journey and blue skies peeked out more than expected. My family and I had the best time with James in Scotland and we were sad to part ways. James kept his van clean and stocked with water, candies, and biscuits. His van was also one of the comfiest cars I have ever ridden in which was important because we did a lot of travel in the van. James was a delight to travel with. He adjusted to my family's personalities and sense of humor and by the end of the trip, it felt like we had known him for years. James was extremely knowledgable, punctual, organized, accommodating, and kind. He met all individual's needs regarding mobility (providing access and alternative routes/walking paths, lending a hand, and always ensuring safety). He took into consideration each person's interests and ensured a memorable experience tailored to each individual. I highly recommend touring with Alba Experiences. My family is so grateful for this opportunity and we hope to travel with James again. There's so much rich history, culture, and stunning landscape to see.
